The U.S. is planning to suspend diplomatic engagement on Syria with Russia, Reuters reports, citing anonymous officials.
At the same time, the press Secretary of the White house Josh Ernest said that diplomatic engagement with Russia in Syria didn’t work.
“Since the beginning of our diplomatic interaction with Russia, our priority was to reduce violence. Obviously this doesn’t work,” he said.
Ernest noted that “the situation in Syria continues to deteriorate and is a cause of deep concern”.
According to him, “the Assad regime is using shameless strategy with the support of the Russians.” Ernest said that meant the bombing of civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, refugee camps and even playgrounds.
