United States of America announced the list of the strategic objectives of the USSR, which were subjected to a nuclear attack in case of war in 1959. This document was compiled by the American command in 1956 and is one of the most full, declassified for the entire period of the Cold war.
The bloody list has 800 pages hopelessly doomed cities, and other objects on the territory of the USSR, China and countries of the Warsaw Pact. It States that in the case of the bombing of the Soviet Union, people living near the epicenters of the explosions were planned to be exposed to radioactive fallout. And in big cities such as Moscow, Leningrad, Warsaw, Beijing and East Berlin, in the goals list at number 275 cynically means “population”, while targeted strikes on people were forbidden by the international norms of the time. The authors, who published this dreadful document, I am amazed at the cruelty with which it was written.
The most important objects for blows were the airfields, especially those which were located at the Western borders of the USSR. It is unknown how much America was going to use nuclear bombs to destroy all the marked objects. Stockpiles of nuclear weapons at the time, both powers grew by leaps and bounds. According to American specialists, in 1955 the United States had at its disposal 2400 nuclear warheads, in 1956, 12 000 in 1961 to 22 000. It is argued that to the 56 th year of the nuclear Arsenal of the States superior to the Soviet 10 times, however, these figures are likely exaggerated.
