The UN refused to evacuate the wounded from Eastern Aleppo

ООН отказалась от эвакуации раненых с восточного АлеппоAleppo has resumed bombing.

The United Nations abandoned plans to evacuate the wounded from Eastern Aleppo, which she hoped to realize within a few days of calm.

This was announced by the under-Secretary-General for humanitarian Affairs and emergency relief coordinator, Stephen O’brien.

“The evacuation was hampered by various factors, including delays in obtaining necessary permissions from the local authorities in Eastern Aleppo, the conditions of accommodation of non-state armed groups and the Syrian government, which delayed the issuance of permits for the delivery of medical and other aid supplies to the Eastern part of the city”, – he explained the reasons for the decision.

The representative of the United Nations has accused all sides in the current situation.

“I am outraged that the fate of the wounded civilians – sick and injured people, children and the elderly, all who are in need of urgent and life – saving support- is in the hands of the parties that consistently and shamelessly put above all their own narrow political and military interests,” he said.

Stephen O’brien stressed that no one injured, and their families had not been evacuated.

On 18 October, Russia sent eight hours “humanitarian pause” in Aleppo to exit the city’s civilian population and armed forces, a temporary truce, later extended several times.

However, the UN failed to evacuate civilians from the city, as the rebels said that they can’t accept the ceasefire, which, in their opinion, aimed at the cleansing of Aleppo by political opponents.

Syria’s largest city – Aleppo – July 2012 partially controlled by the opposition. After the failure of September’s attempts to establish a truce, the situation in Aleppo has deteriorated, the city is subjected to massive onslaught by the government and their Russian allies.

Council of the United Nations on human rights on 21 October decided to start an independent investigation of the events in the Syrian city in order to bring to justice the perpetrators of war crimes.
