The Russian foreign Ministry does not believe that there was a “pivot” to Asia

В МИД России не считают, что произошел "разворот" в сторону Азии

Moscow does not believe that there was a turn of Russian foreign policy from the West towards the Asia-Pacific region (APR), said Russian Deputy foreign Minister Igor Morgulov.

“First of all I would not began to speak about “reversal” of Russia in the Asia Pacific region. Our country is a global power located on the Eurasian continent and build relationships and parallel with the West and the East. Another thing is that in this work we take into account the objective trends of global development. And they suggest that the role of the Asia-Pacific region as “locomotive” of world economy and policy steadily strengthened,” — said the Russian diplomat.

According to him, the strengthening of the Asian direction of Russia’s foreign policy is “a deliberate choice dictated by a number of important factors, primarily the need to ensure favorable conditions for socio-economic recovery of Eastern Siberia and the Far East, their embedding in the system of economic cooperation in the Asia Pacific region”.
