The Pope wished success to the future pan-Orthodox Council, which will be held in Crete in June 2016.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church declared that will send a “welcome message” to the participants of the pan-Orthodox Council, and will also be “spiritually present” for him, reported the Agency TASS on Friday, February 19. The Pope also reiterated that Orthodox Catholics are brothers, and “Cyril (Patriarch Kirill – approx.ed.) – my brother.”

Also, Pope Francis commented on the situation in Ukraine, noting that all parties involved in protracted conflict, it is necessary to stop the war and move to peace, fulfilling the Minsk agreements.

Following the meeting, Patriarch Kirill and Pope Francis signed a Declaration on the protection of Christians worldwide, especially in those Arab countries where they are repressed.
