The police of Latvia will replace the Makarov pistols and Kalashnikov assault rifles on a gun that meets the standards of NATO, which the country is since 2004. On Monday, may 16, reports Delfi.
According to the report of the Latvian Ministry of interior, to the rearmament of the police will require about 4.9 million euros. Of them of 3.98 million euros will be spent on guns and 904,9 thousand for submachine guns. In the Arsenal of guards will enter the Glock pistol and submachine gun MP5 with folding stock. Both weapons use Chuck 9×19 “Parabellum”.
Replacement arms will also affect the border guard of Latvia, which in the case of martial law becomes part of National armed forces.
In divisions of land forces of Latvia, the replacement of Soviet small arms on the Western system was carried out in 1990-2000-ies. Currently, the army and the country uses rifle G-36, M-14, M-16, machine guns FN “minimi”, MG-3 and M2 large-caliber, pistols “Beretta” and “Glock” of various types.
