The Pentagon found no evidence of the Russian threat to Ukraine

Пентагон не обнаружил признаков российской угрозы для УкраиныRussia sends its forces to areas of potential conflict, but this does not mean that military action is inevitable.

The Pentagon found no evidence of direct Russian threat to Ukraine. This writes the Wall Street Journal, citing a senior military source.

It is noted that the us military is watching the movement of Russian troops and equipment after the annexation of Crimea, did not notice the preparation for armed conflict.

“Changes in the military tactics of Russia correspond to the plans. This is a long term trend, there’s nothing new,” – said the interlocutor of the newspaper.

According to the source, the Pentagon expects to strengthen Crimea, the Russian military will practice the practical actions of the amphibious assault and air defense.

The U.S. military also expects that Russia will continue the rotation of troops and equipment in the area.

As the WSJ notes, some US-based analysts in recent weeks have pointed to Russia’s plans to reorient its forces to areas of potential conflict, but clarified that the move does not mean that military action is inevitable.

Some U.S. officials and their allies believe that Russia’s strategy aimed to provoke a sharp reaction of Kiev, which in turn could weaken the EU’s position on sanctions.

“Russia wants to show that he can put pressure on Kiev to trigger his reaction,” said one of the Western officials.
