The number of poor in Russia in the first half fell to 21.4 million

MOSCOW, 16 sen — RIA Novosti/Prime. The number of the Russian population with incomes below the subsistence minimum in the first half of 2016 has decreased by 1.38% in annual terms and amounted to 21.4 million people (14.6 percent of the total population of the country), according to data released on Tuesday Rosstat.

In the first half of last year, the number of poor in Russia amounted to 21.7 million people, or 15.1%.

According to the statistical office, in the second quarter of 2016 the number of poor was reduced by 15.38% compared to the first quarter to 19.8 million people (13.5%) from 23.4 million (16%).

The subsistence minimum for the second quarter in the whole of Russia amounted to 9,956 thousand rubles, for able-bodied population — 10,722 thousand rubles, for pensioners — 8,163 thousand rubles, for children — 9,861 thousand rubles per month.

Compared to the first quarter, the subsistence minimum increased for the working population by 1.84%, pensioners — by 1.72%, for children — by 1.9%.

Thus the cost of the food consumer basket as of second quarter of this year amounted to 4,638 thousand rubles, non — food goods and services- 2,313 thousand.
