The government of the Maldives announced the release of the Republic from the “British Commonwealth of Nations”, which includes Britain and most of its former colonies.
The foreign Ministry stressed that to go to this step “it was hard, but it was inevitable,” reports RIA Novosti. “The government of the Maldives today decided to leave the Commonwealth of Nations”, — quotes the edition the statement of the foreign Ministry of the country.
At the same time representatives of the foreign Ministry of Maldives said that the adoption of this decision, in which the Republic is no longer a part of the “British Commonwealth of Nations” was due to the fact that “the community” refused to recognize achieved success in the field of “nurturing the culture of democracy in the country, as well as the construction and strengthening of democratic institutions.”
