The influence of olive oil on the heart

A study of Scottish scientists from the University of Glasgow have shown that regular consumption of olive oil improve heart health.

According to experts, olive oil contains fatty acids omega-6, which block the body’s response to inflammation during chronic diseases such as heart disease and arthritis.

Oil lowers blood pressure and improves the ratio of “good” and “bad” fats in the blood. This explains the popularity of the Mediterranean diet in which olive oil is one of the main components.

A new study has shown that regular consumption of olive oil may reduce heart attack risk in just six weeks. In the experiment, the specialists studied 69 men and women.

The volunteers were divided into two groups, each of which used 20 ml of olive oil with low or high content of phenols every day for six weeks.

Phenols are natural compounds found in plants, including olives, which presumably are responsible for the protective effect of olive oil.

The results of the study of urine samples for the presence of markers of heart disease have shown that regular consumption of olive oil dramatically improved chemical signals in the body associated with coronary artery disease.

These signals represent the changed levels of certain proteins which suggest early signs of the disease before symptoms appear.

Thus, the experts recommend to add to your diet only 4 teaspoons (20 ml) of olive oil to support heart health and protect yourself from a heart attack.
