The head of the IOC did not exclude new sanctions against athletes of the Russian Federation

Глава МОК не исключил введение новых санкций против спортсменов РФ

The introduction of the complex punitive measures against Russia in light of the doping abuse is warranted, but not possible new sanctions. This opinion was expressed by the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach at the opening of the 129th General Assembly of the IOC in Rio de Janeiro, reports DW.

“If the evidence is true, then this doping system is the unprecedented attack on the integrity of sport and the Olympic games”, — quotes the words of the Bach edition.

According to Bach, investigation opened after the report of Richard McLaren, has not yet completed, as it was not heard by the Russian side. The head of the IOC did not exclude the introduction in the Russian Federation and further sanctions, the newspaper writes. It also notes, according to Bach, because of the “seriousness of allegations” the IOC can not apply the principle of presumption of innocence. “On the other hand, we cannot deny athletes the right to prove his innocence,” concluded Bach, reports the publication.

Bach had previously been criticized due to the fact that his organization decided not to remove all the athletes from Russia from participation in the Olympic games in Rio. According to the decision, the athletes who can prove doping “purity”, will be able to start in Brazil.

The Olympic games in Rio will be held from 5 to 21 August.
