The German foreign Ministry told the difference between the coup in Turkey from the Maidan

МИД Германии рассказал, чем отличается путч в Турции от МайданаThe MFA in social networks answered the user’s question.

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Germany on Monday, August 1, explained on their pages in social networks Facebook and Twitter, what’s the difference between a coup attempt in Turkey in July 2016 and the change of power in Ukraine in February 2014 as a result of mass protests on Independence square.

The text became the answer to the question of the user named CDU Fan:), who was interested in the criteria of the official approach of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Germany to these events, entitled “Why the situation in Turkey is not comparable with the Ukrainian.”

“After the escalation of violence on the Maidan, President Yanukovych signed a Memorandum, drawn up under the mediation of France, Germany and Poland on a peace overcoming the crisis. After his signing, he fled from Kiev in the night from 21 to 22 February. Well as the capital left the majority of Ministers, resulting in the country there is not a functioning government, no functioning head of state. Parliament speaker Rybak resigned. In this situation, the Ukrainian Parliament, as the only workable, constitutional and democratically legitimate authority, February 22 voted for new presidential elections, having appointed them on may 25, 2014”, – stated in the publication.

In Turkey, however, stressed the authors of the text, the plotters planned to install a military dictatorship, brought out tanks and did air strikes on their own people. “As you can see, the analogy is lame, and even very much”, – concluded the authors of the post on the page of the German foreign Ministry in Facebook.

The Turkish military tried to stage a coup on the evening of 15 July. Soon, however, the Turkish authorities took the situation under control. The rebellion killed 265 people.

At the moment in Turkey detained more than 18 thousand people after a coup attempt. In addition, 60 thousand people, including judges, teachers and journalists were dismissed. The Turkish authorities consider as the organizer of the rebellion, the opposition of Fethullah Gulen. Human rights organizations reported torture of detainees after the coup.
