The fifth part of the world foretold obesity by 2025

Пятой части мира предрекли ожирение к 2025 году

About 20 percent of the population in 10 years (by 2025) will suffer from obesity. Scientists urge politicians to take the necessary measures to prevent the epidemic. The medical research collaboration of NCD Risk Factor published in the Lancet, a multiple of about it, reports Sky News.

According to scientists, since 1975 every 10 years, the average weight of a person increases by 1.5 kg. If this trend continues, in 2025, 18 percent of men and 21% of women in the world are obese, of whom 6 and 9 percent, respectively — with its severe form.

From 1975 to 2014 the average BMI (body mass index) increased from 21.7 to 24.2. Obesity is diagnosed in those whose BMI is greater than 25 (except for people with well-developed muscle tissue, in particular professional athletes). The parameter is defined as the ratio of body weight (in kilograms) by the square of body length (in metres).

The largest number of obese has in China: 43.2 million men and 46.4 million women (in 2014). The highest share of obesity was observed in Ireland, Cyprus and Malta, the lowest in South Asia (where a quarter of the population is underweight), Central and East Africa.

In their study, the researchers analyzed a BMI of 19.2 million people (9.9 million males and 9.3 million females) over 18 years from around 200 countries, representing 21 regions of the Earth. The material used covered data collected from 1975 to 2014.
