The Dalai Lama visited the Council of Europe

“His Holiness the Dalai Lama Tientsin Gyatso arrived in the Council of Europe, where he met with Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland, President of the parliamentary Assembly, Pedro Agramunt and the Commissioner for human rights Nils Muiznieks,” – said the press service of the Council of Europe.

According to the spokesman, the Dalai Lama spoke at the Palace of Europe before the representatives of the diplomatic corps and staff of the COE. Special attention was paid to issues such as the development of compassion and ethical principles in a secular world.

His Holiness is in France with a five-day visit. Before that, the Dalai Lama visited Paris, where he met with journalists, however, at the Elysee Palace and other government agencies didn’t invite him. “My visit is purely non-political. Besides, I have nothing to ask of your President. If I had something to ask the President, I would be disappointed. But this is not the case. So no problem,” said the Dalai Lama.

He also noticed how over the last decades in the West has changed the view on war: “As the First world and the Second, the French, like the Germans, marched with pride, as if it were something extraordinary … And now the mood has completely disappeared.” Speaking about the protection of the environment, the Tibetan leader said that even a century ago, environmental issues nobody cared, and now we understood our dependence on nature and his mind”. At the same time the Dalai Lama spoke out against all forms of terrorism and urged not to ignite the fire of enmity.
