New “Patriotic” initiative of activists of nationalist organizations of the country causes losses of billions of dollars and, in the end, may lead to quite opposite results — to the lifting of European sanctions against the Russian Federation.
As it is known, activists of nationalist organizations, in particular the “Right sector”, the Union of UBD in the ATO “Brethren of Ukraine”, NGO “Carpathian Sich” and the soldiers of the same unit of the volunteer corps “Aydar” GC “Azov”, the soldiers of the battalion “Donbass” announced an indefinite blockade of the Russian trucks. More than eight regions joined in this action.
The initiators of the blockade of Russian cargo carriers have become activists, the action was not coordinated with the government and not correlated with the current economic situation in the country, political agreements, including with Europe, which as a result will suffer significant losses. The Cabinet is only now trying to make a decision on the matter.
The losses that will incur on our country “Patriotic” whims of activists, amounts to billions. According to the former Deputy Minister of transport of Ukraine Oleksandr Kava, this situation threatens the transit potential of the country and will prove a great blow to the state budget.
“The loss (tens of millions USD per month) will be from budget revenue leakage from excise taxes on fuel, will not receive salaries Ukrainians working in gas stations, roadside stores. If a trucker passes through the territory of Ukraine of about 600 km, the buys we have about 250 l of fuel. Now, when the Russian trucks stopped to let Poland and Ukraine had a unique chance to earn additionally on them (thousands of lorries per day). But in the case of the embargo Russia could do the same,” says Kava.
What we observe today – the Russian Federation in response was to hold cargo facilities, registered in Ukraine and send them to specialized Parking lots until further orders regarding the situation.
And our carriers carried the goods not only directly in Russia but also transit to Finland, Kazakhstan and other countries. The blockade of Russian trucks now impact on them.
Another problem lies in the fact that by preventing the transit of Russian carriers, Ukraine is damaging to European business. A lot of products that carry Russian trucks, already belongs to companies from the EU. In the end, Ukraine will only achieve what interested European big business will put pressure on their governments, demanding the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
