The Belarusians save the potatoes and pass the oatmeal

Retail trade turnover in Belarus in the first quarter of this year amounted to 83.4 trillion rubles, according to the national statistics Committee. This is 0.9% lower than the same period last year. FINANCE.TUT.BY see which products the Belarusians began to buy less often and some more often.

From food items Belarusians in January-March, bought less than in the same period last year, fruit and vegetable juices (-25,7%), fruit wines (-23,7%), cognac and brandy (-14%), fish, crustaceans and molluscs (-11,4%), soft drinks (-11,3%), fresh potatoes (-5,2%), grape wine (is -3.5%), cheese (-4,5%), vegetable oil (-5,7%), sugar (-2,2%), pasta (by 0.8%).

But Belarusians bought more mineral water (+15,2%), baby food (+12,3%), butter (+5,3%), vegetables (+3.9 percent), meat and meat products (+3,2%), flour (+2,5%), sparkling wines and champagnes (+2,1%), vodka (+1.1 per cent) and cereals (+3.3 per cent). While buying oatmeal rose by a quarter.

Of non-food goods most for the year “sunk” selling refrigerators and household freezers (-21%), televisions (-15,7%), washing machines and machines for drying clothes (-12,6%) and pharmaceutical products (is 6.2%).

Increased sales of construction materials (+21.3 per cent), footwear (+18,8%), knitwear (+12,9%), underwear (+11.9 percent), motor fuels (+10.9 per cent), perfumery and toiletries (+8%), vehicles (+6,6%), hosiery (+6%).

We will remind, according to the International Agency of social and marketing studies, almost every second Belarusian (43,6%) started in 2015 to spend less on food. Most often cut back on meat, fish, chocolate and tea.

Belarusians also began to save on cosmetics and household products, many people are switching to budget domestic counterparts. Almost every fourth citizen in 2015 started to buy Belarusian powders and preparations for washing dishes, and every fifth shower gel.
