The Armenian government supported the recognition of Karabakh’s independence

Правительство Армении поддержало признание независимости КарабахаThe bill was submitted for consideration in the Armenian Parliament.

The government of Armenia on Thursday approved the bill on recognition of independence of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).

“Recognition of NKR independence conditional on the outcome of the discussions between Armenia and Artsakh, considering the further development of the situation in the region – ed.), including external factors”, – said Kocharyan, representing the opinion of the Ministry on the bill.

The bill will be soon submitted for consideration of the Armenian Parliament.

The draft law was prepared by the deputies of the Armenian Parliament, representatives of the opposition factions “Heritage” and “Armenian national Congress” party Zaruhi Postanjyan and former Prime Minister of Armenia Hrant Bagratyan.

Postanjyan has repeatedly provided the government a bill on recognition of NKR that were rejected by the Executive body of the Republic.

Armenia did not recognize the independence of Karabakh, explaining the unwillingness to harm the negotiation process.

Before commenting on the plans of the government of Armenia will discuss the bill on recognition of NKR independence by Armenia, the Azerbaijani foreign Ministry stated that “regardless of the outcome of the discussion, it is obvious that such provocative step, Armenia yet again violates the norms and principles of international law, the resolutions of the UN Security Council of 1993 as well as relevant documents and decisions on the conflict adopted by other international organizations.”

The Azerbaijani foreign Ministry emphasizes that in its resolutions the UN Security Council explicitly confirmed that Nagorno Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan and demanded immediate, full and unconditional withdrawal of occupying forces from all occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

According to Baku, “the Armenian leadership without thinking about the consequences of their irresponsible actions, started to prepare for the political explosion of the situation and a complete breakdown in the peace settlement, in which she inevitably would have to liberate the occupied territories of Azerbaijan”.

“If selfish purpose will prevail over prudence and this provocation will be implemented, the responsibility for its consequences will fall on Armenia and its leadership”, – reads the statement.
