The survey showed that 59 percent of U.S. residents would support a nuclear strike on Iraq.
President Barack Obama will soon make a historic visit to Hiroshima, destroyed the American atomic bomb in August 1945 and the Wall Street Journal decided to find out the attitude of Americans to nuclear weapons.
The publication has offered Americans a scenario identical to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, only in Iran, not Japan.
It turned out that 59 percent of respondents supported the atomic bomb attack on Iran. At the same time, among Republicans a nuclear attack was supported by 81 percent among Democrats – 47 percent.
WSJ recalls that in 1945 the American society supported the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Then during the national survey, 53 percent of Americans agreed that the US had to drop bombs on the Japanese cities the way it was done.
Then 23 percent would approve the subsequent attack on the country before the surrender. About 14 percent said that the bombs should have reset in a deserted region of the country, and only four percent of the population did not agree with the use of nuclear weapons.
Survey 2015 about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki showed that with the actions vliste agree 28 percent of Americans and almost 15 percent voted against.
“These results are disturbing. Today, as in 1945, the US public is unlikely to restrain the President if he decides to consider the question of the use of nuclear weapons,” concludes the WSJ.
