The issue of peace in Syria is being actively discussed at the G20 summit in China, which started today. In particular, the French President Francois Hollande called on his colleague from Russia Vladimir Putin to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis. Also during the summit, talks were held between the foreign Ministers of Russia and the United States for a peaceful settlement in Syria, but the parties were unable to agree and appointed another meeting for tomorrow. According to the US state Department, the negotiations had no results, because the Russian Federation refused from the previously reached agreements on a number of issues.

Recall that in early August, the rebels broke the siege of Aleppo after a three-week siege that has led to a shortage of supplies and drugs in the city. As was stated by the head of the Syrian monitoring centre for human rights, Rami Abdel Rahman, the August operation of the rebels to lift the siege of Aleppo was one of the biggest defeats of the army of Assad since the start of the civil war in Syria in 2011.

UN calls for urgent ceasefire in Aleppo. According to the organization, against the active opposition of the army of President Bashar al-Assad and the opposition over two million people remained without access to water and electricity.
