Stratfor: the end of Russian Renaissance and a new wave of emigration from Russia

Stratfor: конец российского ренессанса и новая волна эмиграции из России

One of the leading analytical companies in the world told about the shocking problems of Russia.

The Insider has published part of the material of the American analytical company Stratfor, is devoted to the problem of sharp growth of emigration from Russia.

Waves of emigration, according to experts of Stratfor, rolled across Russia for over a hundred years.

In the late XIX – early XX century the country has left more than two million Jews fleeing from nationalist pogroms.

Almost half a million people have left Russia after the 1917 revolution. Among them were writers, artists and scientists, acquired international fame, such as Bunin, Nabokov, Sikorsky, Chagall.

Up to a million people left the USSR during and immediately after world war II.

In the second half of the twentieth century most of the Soviet (and then Russian) Jews left for Israel, USA and Germany.

In the 1990s, the majority of Russians fled abroad to escape from economic difficulties. And among the Russian elite became fashionable to send to study and work abroad for their children. Even some Russian politicians, a famous bitter fight for patriotism, spirituality and ties, “spiritless geyropah” live “sole heir”…

Stratfor experts emphasize that the economic upswing, which began after coming to power in Russia of Vladimir Putin, have sharply reduced the rate of emigration. For a long time, but… not forever. Feature of the Russian Renaissance of the early 2000s was that to enter Russia wanted many times more people than to travel.

But after 2011, everything has changed dramatically. Many successful Russians were disappointed with the results of the parliamentary elections and the preservation of the political course. The country earned policy limits, the contradictions with the West. Adopted the law on foreign agents, expanded the criminal and administrative codes introduced tougher rules for Internet users.

The results of this policy are obvious. The number of Russian emigrants increased from approximately 36 thousand in 2011 to 350 thousand in 2015. Growth – almost ten times! First left liberal intellectuals and successful businessmen: Zimin, Kasparov, Sonin, Durov. In 2014, Russia has entered rigid opposition to the West, it was imposed the sanctions, collapsed oil prices. This caused a not particularly popular “reform.” In the end, the real incomes of citizens began to fail, and the citizens themselves – to lose work. From Russia in addition to the creative and entrepreneurial “VIPs” went highly skilled professionals, in particular doctors, which the West lacks, and in Russia after the “optimizations” – excess. Leave entrepreneurs, who do not see more in Russia, the prospects for business development, engineers, researchers. The Russians are proud of the different kinds of discoveries made by Russian scientists, but I prefer not to think about the fact that a significant part of the “Russian” discoveries – made compatriots in Western laboratories.

Grants for young scientists and institutions like SKOLKOVO – not really save the situation. Young people gain the money, gain experience in SKOLKOVO, and then, again, “leave the nest”. And offer them in return, in General – nothing…

350 thousand per year – this is no joke. It is a big deal, especially considering the fact that we are talking about the most active and educated people of the country. The authorities have something urgent to do with the situation, otherwise the future of Russia will be the dark-colored tones…
