Similar conditions can be found in many prisons.
The prison in Quezon city was built 60 years ago on the Philippine island of Luzon. Originally it was supposed to accommodate 800 prisoners, but the authorities managed to accommodate 3 800. Prisoners are forced to sleep in shifts on the floor, stairs, hammocks made from old blankets.

The daily budget per inmate is 50 pesos (about 25 USD.) for food and 5 pesos for medicine. One toilet for 130 people. The stench is aggravated by the rotting of garbage in the neighborhood near the prison channel.
Philippine prisons are the most congested in the world. On average, they contain 5 times more prisoners than expected. The conditions of detention in prisons is getting worse as the police are waging a fierce war against crime. The President said that the main priority of his six-year reign is the elimination of the drug.
