Scientists told which fruits protect against obesity and diabetes

You can protect yourself from obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, regularly consuming red grapes and oranges, say experts from the University of Warwick.

The researchers found that the combination of two compounds found in red grapes and oranges, can be used to improve the health of people with diabetes and reduce the incidence of obesity and cardiovascular disease.

These compounds include TRANS-resveratrol (Tres), found in red wine grapes, and hesperetin (HESP) found in oranges. When administered in pharmaceutical doses of these compounds was observed a decrease in the level of glucose in the blood, increasing insulin sensitivity and improving the health of the arteries.

The study involved 32 overweight and obesity, age from 18 to 80 years. The body mass index of participants ranged from 25 to 40.

According to scientists, the compounds present in grapes and oranges, act by increasing levels of a protein called Glo1, which neutralizes the damaging effects of sugar. Experts hope that in the future these compounds will be available as pharmaceutical products.
