Russians started to spend more on food

Institute for social analysis and forecasting Ranhigs under the President of the Russian Federation published the statistics, according to which the Russians began to spend more on food.

“The share of food products for the first time in 8 years exceeded the share of non-food making in February 2016 50,1% and 49,9% of the total retail merchandise trade respectively”, — stated in the materials research. The previous record was set in may 2009, when the share of food products rose by 49.6%.

“There is a trend increase in the share of spending on food, quite logically reflect the fact of declining real incomes and rising poverty — it is known that the poorer the household, the greater part of the budget it spends on food,” say the authors of the report. Thus, according to Rosstat, in February 2016, the average monthly wage amounted to 32 990 rubles, reports TASS.
