Valentina Matviyenko is confident that humanitarian cooperation between the two countries will increase with the opening of new consulates. The speaker of the upper chamber noted that the scheduled work on the implementation of the intergovernmental agreement on the establishment of the Russian Consulate in Wuhan. A year ago, in 2015, President Vladimir Putin and China’s leader XI Jinping have signed this document. In turn, the Chinese Consulate General will open in Kazan. Now there is a planned work on the harmonization of the place where is located the Consulate General.

Wuhan city is chosen not casually. Wuhan and Russia are inextricably linked by historical events. At the end of the 1930-ies of the Soviet pilots-volunteers helped the Chinese comrades in the victory over the Japanese invaders. Both sides expressed the view that reserves trade and economic cooperation exist in the promotion of joint integration projects in the Eurasian space, including in the framework of the pairing of the Eurasian economic Union and “Economic belt of the silk road”.
