Putin ordered the state authorities to perpetuate the memory of victims of political repressions

Путин обязал госорганы увековечивать память жертв политических репрессий

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a law that gives state authorities the right to implement measures to perpetuate the memory of victims of political repression. The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The law also enshrines the right of state agencies to support the activities of organizations and citizens, aimed at perpetuating the memory of victims of political repression.

Moreover, it introduces the obligation of local authorities upon discovery of burial sites of victims of mass repressions to send to the regional authority for the protection of cultural heritage applications for inclusion of an object with signs of object of a cultural heritage in the unified state register of objects of cultural heritage (monuments of history and culture) of peoples of the Russian Federation.

It is also proposed to include in the list of socially-oriented NGOs organizations engaged in activities to perpetuate the memory of victims of political repression. This means that they will be able to count on financial support from the state.

The corresponding initiative was made by the government of the Russian Federation. The state Duma approved the document on 26 February.
