It may happen that the Games in London and Sochi will be the last that we had for someone to hurt and to worry. However, from the fact that the Russians in the coming years will not allow neither to participate nor to the organization of major tournaments, world sport radically will not be cleaner. It’s not about the image — it’s about how to stay in the world sports movement, at least as conventionally grounded. Well, whether or not to stay quite, and on their own.
The worst thing is not that how many Olympic medals don’t win. And not even that will lose a whole generation of athletes of the highest class. And not even the fact that I may lose the right to hold the world championship on football-2018. Not a war in the end. Not deadly, although disappointing.
Worst of all, the country will lose for a very long time, a source of rest, but it is even harder, you’ll lose a very important incentive for the younger generation. I’m not talking about ideology, which no, I’m not about sport as a tool to support the existing government. Sport — source of life-giving forces and elite sport, with all its huge problems, performs the role of the main and very attractive incentive for millions. I will say, sending Russia to the reservation, depriving it of the contacts in the sport (and the culture and art, obviously, on the other), the world will eventually gain embittered, desperate and ready for any call by the government of the country. I would argue that Russia already is.

I’m afraid that the leadership of the IOC ran into the only, and not the most fair method of punishment.
Understanding will come not now, but later. But we in Russia that does not help.
