Porsche celebrates the 40th anniversary of the perfect model of a sports car

In 1976, the company first introduced the model with this configuration — type 924 — and entered a new segment.

The engine was installed in the front, while transmission was placed on the rear axle. From 1976 to 1995, the company Porsche has created a generation of sports cars, which had little in common with traditional principles 911 — 924, 928, 944 and 968.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of these models, the Porsche Museum has prepared a special exposition “Era Transaxle layout: from 924 to 928”, in which the public will be presented to 23 outstanding instance of the data models. More than half of them will be shown for the first time.

A model layout of the “Transaxle” became in these years a real triumph sports car manufacturer. Porsche was able to realize worldwide almost 400,000 cars with this configuration.

Success has become the philosophy of the Porsche brand: a perfect mix of sportiness and practicality in everyday use.

In addition to the serial and racing cars in the Porsche Museum also presented some prototypes and concept cars, have never left the exhibition halls. For example, the exposition will include several different options for Porsche 924, originally entry-level model.

The prototype of the 924 Turbo Targa 1979 will be shown to the public for the first time. Despite the fact that this model was never put into series, her design later formed the basis for future developments 944 Cabriolet.
