Poland recognized the Volyn tragedy of genocide

Poland adopted July 11 as day of remembrance of the victims of the Volyn massacre. The Polish Sejm adopted a resolution on Friday, July 22.

The resolution voted 432 MP, and 10 abstained. Previously on 20 July the two commissions of the Sejm – on liaison with poles abroad and for culture and communications, confirmed the corresponding entry in the text of the resolution on crime in Volyn.

The document notes that during the Second world war on the outskirts of Poland was a struggle between two totalitarian regimes – Nazi and Soviet, and in this framework, acting Ukrainian nationalist organizations with which the Polish underground were unable to find a common language.

The resolution also stresses that in the Volyn massacre were killed and representatives of other Nations, and that some Ukrainians standing up for the victims of the nationalists.

The authors of the resolution said that the return of Polish retaliation was also caused casualties among the civilian population.
