Legendary American swimmer Michael Phelps has confirmed that the Games in 2016 became his last.
“Okay, I’m done. This time I’m saying this for sure. If you compare the Games in Rio de Janeiro and London, here I was more emotional, knowing that this is my last Olympics. During the Games in Tokyo I will look through, but I will not” – quoted by Phelps “USA Today”.
Phelps competed in five Olympic games, making his debut in Signee in 2000 year at the age of 15. In Athens in 2004, the year American became a six-time Olympic champion, in Beijing 2008, won all eight races in which he participated.
London 2012 Olympics year Phelps brought four more gold medals in Rio, the most decorated Olympian in sports history, won five awards of the higher test, only one swim (100 meters butterfly) taking second place.
Thus, in the Olympics, Phelps has won 28 medals – 23 gold, three silver and two bronze. If the swimmer has represented one country, it would have entered the top 40 of the medal standings for the entire history of the Olympics.
