The system of recycling urine into drinking water has failed in the us segment of the International space station (ISS). About it reports”Interfax” citing a source in the rocket and space industry.
“On the American segment of the ISS due to technical reasons already five days not working, the system of recycling of urine UPA. Instead of processing the urine has to be stored in special containers”, — said the Agency interlocutor.
The astronauts, according to the source, attempt to repair an installation under the guidance of experts on the ground. In case of success it will be launched “today or tomorrow”.
As reported by SpaceRef, the installation failed in the compartment waste and hygiene (The Waste and Hygiene Compartment, WHC). Simultaneously with the repair work the unit must be installed with a new filter that will process a higher volume of urine in drinking water.
Just on the ISS are three bathrooms, one of them is located in the Russian Zvezda module, the second in the American module “Tranquility”, the third portable. The possibility of recycling urine into water, there is only us in the compartment.
In August 2015 in the us segment of the ISS occurred a failure in the power supply system. The problem caused a halt in operation of the system of air circulation and other life support systems. At night, the crew of the space station raised the alarm. The joint efforts of astronauts and specialists of the mission control Center (MCC) in Houston has managed to solve the problem.
