The Alliance will train local forces to fight ISIS.
NATO will not take part in combat operations against the terrorist organization “Islamic state” in Syria and Iraq. This was announced by the head of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.
“NATO trains power we have to do this anymore. Because in the long run it is better that Iraqi forces can independently deal with ISIS than it is to NATO,” said Stoltenberg.
Note that NATO supported the coalition led by the United States, including providing early warning aircraft AWACS, which will monitor the situation in Syria, not in its airspace.
