NATO Secretary General appealed to Russia

Генсек НАТО обратился к РоссииStoltenberg urged Russia to refrain from rash steps.

Tomorrow, 19 may, Montenegro will officially receive an invitation to become a NATO member.

This statement was made by the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.

“Tomorrow (Thursday) we have signed a Protocol on the invitation of Montenegro to membership. Tomorrow Montenegro will be able to participate in all meetings of NATO as a partner and as a state, invited to membership,” he said during a press conference in Brussels, added that the decision was supported by all members of the Alliance.

At the same time, Stoltenberg underlined that the formal membership of Montenegro in NATO will take place after the completion of all legal procedures.

“As soon as all member States of NATO have ratified this Protocol, Montenegro will become the 29th member of the Alliance”, – concluded the Secretary General.

He also did not rule out that Russia will take in response to such a decision regarding Montenegro’s unfriendly steps. However, he urged Russia to refrain from them.

“Every nation has the right to make decisions about their path, including the path, which she will guarantee their safety. Any other sanctions and Russia’s reaction will be unnecessary,” – said Stoltenberg.
