Doctors have called the country with the highest women and men. Dedicated research collaborations NCD Risk Factor published in the journal eLife, briefly about it on Tuesday, July 26, reports the Guardian.

Most tall women, with an average height 169,8 cm, live in Latvia. Among men the rate is highest among residents of the Netherlands and equal 182,5 cm. As the authors of the study, growth latviski in 1914, occupied 28-e a place, and the inhabitants of the Netherlands — 12th.

During the period from 1914 to 2014 the average growth of Russian women has changed from 153.6 cm to was 165.3 cm, and men — from 167 cm to 176,5 cm. The average for the studied countries over the last 100 years the average height of people has increased by 11 centimeters. Currently, the figure for men is 177,5 cm and 164,4 cm for women.

In their work, the collaboration of NCD Risk Factor, including statistical analysis of data on non-communicable diseases for the world health organization, researching about 1.5 thousand sources. This allowed us to track the change in average height of adult inhabitants of the planet (over 18) in the period from 1914 to 2014.

Scientists say that in the future the global tendency to increase the average growth of the world’s inhabitants must go down. Doctors believe that high growth is an evolutionary advantage, in particular, due to the lower likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease and the associated increase in life expectancy. The reason for the global increase average height of man scientists call the increase in standard of living.
