NEW YORK, August 3. /Offset. TASS Alexey Kachalin/. A private American company Moon Express has received permission from the U.S. government for the equipment of the expedition to the moon in 2017. This was reported by Reuters, one of the founders and the head of this company with headquarters at Cape Canaveral (Florida) Bob Richards.
“The US government took a truly historic decision to allow private enterprise Moon Express to travel beyond the Earth’s orbit and to land on the moon in 2017,” said Richards. He drew attention to the fact that it was the result of long consultations, which his firm conducted with the Federal aviation administration (FAA), the state Department and other Federal agencies.
The expedition is for two weeks. Moon Express is planning to make the landing module the size of a suitcase on the surface of the natural satellite of the Earth. The device will be loaded with various scientific instruments, including camera and transmitter for the shooting of our planet and smuggled photos in the headquarters of a private company.
Richards said that according to international agreement of 1967, the U.S. government bears full responsibility for the mission of non-state enterprises outside the earth’s orbit. According to the businessman, Moon Express became the first private company in the United States received permission to equip an expedition for flight beyond this limit.
A number of countries, including the US, Russia, China, UK, Japan, announced plans to build bases on the Earth’s satellite. NASA U.S. President George W. Bush had intended to begin construction of a Lunar outpost, designed for life and work of astronauts in 2019 and end in 2024. In 2010, however, the decision of the present head of the White house Barack Obama the project was abandoned due to lack of funds. In 2012, the Deputy Director of NASA Lori Garver, speaking at a scientific conference in California, said that the Obama administration considers it necessary to create on the surface of the moon “residential facility”.
