The British introduced the second-generation crossover.
MINI has introduced the Countryman crossover second generation, which appeared a version with petrol-electric power plant. Coupe became the first hybrid model in the history of the British brand.
To apply the hybrid scheme has allowed modular platform UKL2. The “green” modification of the model was designated E Cooper S Countryman ALL4.
The novelty has borrowed the powertrain from the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer 225xe, the composition of which includes the 1.5-liter engine capacity of 136 horsepower, the 88-strong electric, six-speed “automatic” and a set of lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 7.7 kWh. The basic unit for Countryman second generation was three-cylinder 1.5 petrol engine, developing 136 HP and 220 Nm of torque. The diesel line is represented by two two-liter units with a capacity of 150 and 190 horsepower (Cooper D Countryman and Cooper SD Countryman respectively). The upgraded all-wheel drive system All4 will be offered for all versions.
The base engine can be paired with a six-speed “mechanics” or automatic transmission, the same range. The variant with the top diesel is equipped with an eight “automatic” Steptronic, which is also available as an option for versions Cooper S Countryman and Cooper D Countryman.
Overall length of the new Countryman has increased by 200 millimeters and a width of 30 millimeters — up to 4297 and 1819 mm, respectively. The wheelbase has 2,670 millimetres, 75 millimetres more than its predecessor. The Luggage capacity is 450 liters, but with folded rear row of seats — 1309 liters.
The crossover can be equipped with a multimedia complex with an 8.8-inch touch screen and navigation, a projection display, stereo system Harman/Kardon panorama roof.
Public premiere of the MINI Countryman second generation will take place in mid-November at the motor show in Los Angeles, and sales will start in the first quarter of 2017. Subsequently, the model will be “charged” modification of the JCW, which is expected to be equipped with the same 231-HP two-liter “turboservice”.
