Millions of people in Southeast Asia may lose their jobs for 20 years

More than half of workers in five countries of Southeast Asia will lose their jobs in the next two decades due to automation. As informs Agency Reuters, the most vulnerable in this regard is the garment industry.

According to a study conducted by the International labour organization, at risk of about 137 million people, or 56 percent of the working population in Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Many Western companies place in these countries production due to cheap labor. But due to the automation of factories and plants, this factor loses its significance. And their staff need to adjust to new conditions.

In Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, there are about 630 million people. This region is a manufacturing center of textiles and vehicles. At risk of losing their jobs affected from 64 to 88 percent of the employed in textile, clothing and footwear industry, and from 60 to 70 per cent in automotive.
