Today, the international Olympic Committee will make a decision on Russia’s participation in the upcoming Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
The British newspaper “The Mail on Sunday, citing reliable sources in the IOC, says that the national team of Russia for the existence of a state doping system is waiting for a full disqualification.
The opponent of such decision by the head of the IOC Thomas Bach, who wants to avoid collective responsibility and removal from the Olympics “clean” athletes. Bach at the meeting of the IOC intends to shift responsibility to the international Federation, which will have to promptly consider applications for Russian athletes. A mandatory condition will be a strict anti-doping testing and the lack of connections with persons involved in high-profile doping scandal.
The fate of Russia at the 2016 Olympics depends on the 15 members of the International Olympic Committee, whose membership includes the President of the NOC of Ukraine Sergey Bubka.
The IOC meeting will start at 13:00 Kyiv time. The final decision on the Russian question will be published immediately after the adjournment of the meeting.
The potential removal of Russia from the Olympic games could become the first in the 120-year history of the modern Olympic movement.
