Mass protest in the Congo: 17 dead

In the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Kinshasa during riots and pogroms killed 17 people.

As the newspaper notes, the violence erupted shortly before the demonstrations against the President Joseph Kabila. Before a planned protest, which the authorities then canceled because of the riots, there were serious clashes between armed with stones by young people and the police.

“Officially, we have 17 dead in Kinshasa: three policemen and 14 civilians”, – said the representative of the Ministry of internal Affairs of the country.

According to eyewitnesses, a crowd of demonstrators burned a police officer in response to the use of arms.

In turn, human rights activists reported the arrests of dozens of protesters and journalists in the capital, and also between Goma and Kisangani, where anti-government marches also took place.

It is noteworthy, to protest against the government of the Republic came thousands of people to warn President Joseph Kabila three months before its mandate expires on 20 December and to demand the announcement of the presidential election prior to that date.
