Maradona supports the expansion of the world Cup

Марадона поддерживает расширение чемпионата мираThe iconic Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona has commented on plans of the FIFA broadening of participation in the world Cup.

The new President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino is going to soon be put on the consideration of the expansion of the final stage of the world Cup to 48 teams. Thus, almost one in five of the national team will be able to perform at the world Cup.

Diego Maradona, world champion in 1986 and runner-up world Cup 1990, supported the initiative Infantino. The legendary Argentine believes that many star players unfairly not playing in the world Cup.

“In the near future I will have a conversation with Infantino. We will discuss it. But I approve this idea. Look at the last play-offs has faced Cristiano Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic. Unfair to the fans not to see one of them at a major tournament.

The cooperation with FIFA? I’m ready for it, but only if you are able to change something. Otherwise, I don’t need it”, – quotes Maradona “Associated Press”.

Recall, Infantino is offering after completing the qualifying rounds with 48 teams divided into two groups – 16 teams will directly qualify for the world Cup, and the remaining 32 will be divided into pairs and will determine the rest of the participants of the traditional group stage.
