Lukashenko has called the IMF’s demands for a “humiliation of Belarusians”

Лукашенко назвал требования МВФ "унижением белорусов"Lukashenko has called the IMF’s demands are unaffordable for the people of Belarus.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the demands of the International monetary Fund (IMF) are unaffordable and unfair for the Belarusian people, though “I want to get three billion of cheap credit.

On Monday, the Belarusian leader held a meeting on issues of cooperation with the IMF, from which Minsk is discussing the beginning of a new program supported by the loan of 3 billion dollars within the extended financing of 2.28% per annum for ten years.

At the meeting, Lukashenko said that during the discussion of the program it is necessary to consider the interests of the Belarusian people, and should not be dismissed in the country for 20 years.

“Yes, I want to get three billion of cheap credit. I’m in. But the price is completely unaffordable for us and unfair to the people negates all of the policy that we have had until now,” — said Lukashenko.

Lukashenko noted that the government proposes him to sign a letter addressed to IMF chief Christine Lagarde that “goes against the data of people with promises”.

“It’s humiliating not just for me. It’s humiliating for our people. So, we will, if we will require this policy, to tighten the belt themselves and to explain to the people that or this (credit — ed.) will receive, or will live as they lived — quietly, without destroying anything. I think people will not support what is recommended here”, he added.

The Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus Pavel Kallaur following the meeting said that the talks on the loan will continue, in particular, during the visit of the Belarusian delegation to the session of IMF in October in Washington.
