Lavrov: the interests that NATO stands under the influence of the United States, illegal

Лавров: интересы, которые отстаивает НАТО под воздействием США, незаконны

Russia cannot recognize the interests that NATO stands under the influence of the United States, legitimate from the point of view of national interests of each state, said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov in an interview with the Russian Council on foreign and defense policy.

“Interests, which now defends the Alliance under the influence of the United States, we are unable to recognize the legitimate from the point of view of national interests of each state,” — said the Minister.

“Because there is an attempt to demonize us. We have to criticize, in the same way as any other country. We had a dialog mechanisms with the US and the EU, during which we exchanged concerns about what is happening in the United States, Russia, Europe. With all the imperfections of these dialogues, they were equal and allowed to solve many issues humanly, or at least, if not solve, then discuss”.

According to him, now all the dialogs are closed, and many more.

“The NATO countries with varying degrees of intensity — at least, many of them entail what is the Russian Federation and how to qualify the existing régime. In my opinion, this is done first, in order to save the Alliance.

He recalled that Afghanistan was an attempt to defend the raison d’être of NATO, which led to the fact that the situation in the country significantly worsened after they “worked” NATO: the drug threat has increased several times, the terrorist threat has not disappeared – along with the Taliban appeared LIH.

“Afghanistan was used as an object of collective energy as a common goal. Now that doesn’t work, because now in Afghanistan no longer entice. There will be a limited NATO mission, mostly Americans. Need a new excuse to save the North Atlantic Alliance,” Lavrov concluded.
