John Kerry: if not for Russia, there would be no deal with Iran, no truce in Syria

Thanks to the constructive role Russia has managed to achieve a ceasefire in Syria and to reach an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program. About this on air of American television said U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry. According to him, the main debate between Moscow and Washington are going on now about Ukraine, because previously the US had abused the process in Libya.

Джон Керри: если бы не Россия, не было бы ни сделки с Ираном, ни перемирия в Сирии

In the program Charlie Rose of PBS Secretary of state John Kerry said that thanks to Russia not only managed to reach an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program, but also to achieve the cessation of hostilities in Syria. The presentation of the material leads Inotv.

According to Kerry, he spent an enormous amount of time negotiating with Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. In addition, he said that he spent a lot of time with Vladimir Putin, noting that the Russian President is “smart”.

“I think he’s a strategist and tactician — sometimes more tactician than strategist. But he definitely has a strategic thinking. I think he wants to recognize his point of view and its interests to a certain extent have been met. Obviously, there are limits. We are not going to change their point of view on Crimea,” said U.S. Secretary of state.

In his opinion, at present the main debate between the United States and Russia are “about Ukraine and other things”. “I think President Putin believes the US has abused the process in Libya that we, you know…” continued Kerry.

“All remembered. You know the story. There’s a whole list, a very long list. And what we need to do is to find a way that President Putin had the opportunity to meet the requirements of the UN Security Council, to fulfill the undertaken obligations under the Minsk agreement,” he added.

Speaking about Syria, John Kerry said that “all doubts about whether Russia to play at least some kind of constructive role on the issue of cessation of hostilities”, but the United States and Russia have managed to achieve a cessation of hostilities, “no matter what”.

According to him, it happened because Moscow has played a positive role. “If they had not done so if they had not played a constructive role, we wouldn’t have the agreement with Iran,” said Kerry.

In addition, he noted that without the constructive involvement of Russia failed to remove chemical weapons from Syria and today it was in the hands of the “Islamic state”.

“And if they had not played a constructive role, we would have no cessation of hostilities, and all these people would sit at the negotiating table in Geneva,” — said the head of the American foreign Ministry.

However, in his opinion, there is still a very complicated and “this is all very easily can fall apart if the opposition thinks that there is a serious attitude regarding the transitional period” in Syria, or for any other reasons.
