Japan did not recognize the Crimean elections to the Duma

Japan does not recognize the results of elections to the state Duma of Russia, which took place on the territory of Crimea, said the press service of the Embassy of the country in Ukraine.

“Japan does not recognize the illegal “annexation” of Crimea by the Russian Federation in March 2014, respectively, and therefore the legitimacy and results of the “elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation”, which was held in Crimea on 18 September,” – said in a statement.

The Embassy said that Japan supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and does not recognize attempts to change the status quo by force.

Elections to the state Duma of the Russian Federation in the Crimea is not recognized by the United States, Ukraine, EU and Turkey.

In addition, human rights activists, international observers, including the OSCE, stated about violations in the elections in the Crimea.
