Italian police have arrested 38 human smugglers

Italian police dealt a powerful blow to the network of human smugglers. According to the Agency ANSA, the operation conducted in different parts of the country, police have arrested 38 people.

Rome was defeated by the center of financial operations group, which was confiscated 526 thousand euros 25 thousand dollars and a journal with a list of migrants.

The arrests were the result of a painstaking investigation conducted by the Prosecutor of Palermo, which revealed the mechanisms of movement of persons in Europe, including under the guise of family reunification, as well as drug trafficking.

The number of migrants arriving in Europe from the Middle East and North Africa sharply increased in recent years due to the intensification of conflicts in these regions. The Mediterranean route is the main mode of delivery of migrants to the EU, the second largest transit route passes through the Balkans.

In 2015, the number of migrants arriving to EU countries exceeded 1 million people. This year have already crossed the Mediterranean, according to the International organization for migration, more than 225 thousand people.
