Is allergic good for the brain

Scientists s Institute of molecular regenerative medicine, Salzburg, Austria found that allergic to vegetation enhances memory and helps the brain to produce new cells. The results of the study specialists were published in the journal Frontiers in Cellular Science.

In the experiment, the scientists subjected the mice to the effects of plant pollen, to cause them an allergic reaction and then study the hippocampus region in the brain responsible for memory.

The experiment showed that the allergic reaction stimulated the growth of new neurons (nerve cells) in the hippocampus. This process was significant, since the brain contains millions of neurons responsible for the communication signals and the formation of new memory, but with age, their number decreases. However, it was only the second impact of allergies on the body, and a very unexpected and useful.

In the beginning, the scientists saw that instead of activating the immune system within the hippocampus, an allergic reaction in hay fever stifled her. Scientists believe that such effects on the immune system of the hippocampus, and especially on microglial cells may be important in enhancing memory.

Of microglia in the brain seek out foreign invaders like bacteria and allergens, to destroy them. But it is believed that the aging of the immune cells are activated too quickly, so their reaction becomes excessive. This leads to constant inflammatory processes that cause memory impairment. But pollen’s impact on the hippocampus is deactivated too reactive microglia, in order to positively influence the processes of memory storage
