The Deputy speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov said that Yerevan is not going to develop nuclear weapons. On Tuesday, may 10, reports “Interfax”.
“Armenia uses nuclear power for peaceful purposes, for electricity production. The Armenian authorities do not intend to develop nuclear weapons,” — said Sharmazanov.
The Deputy speaker stressed that the words Deputy and former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan on the possibility of creating nuclear weapons in Armenia are his personal opinion
The official representative of the European Commissioner for foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini Maya Kocijancic on Tuesday said that the European Commission will check the Declaration of Bagratyan. “You know our position on non-proliferation and nuclear weapons. You know our approach, it is clear”, — said Kocijancic.

The Armenian nuclear power plant built in Soviet times, near the town of Metsamor. It consists of two power units with reactors of type VVER-440.
