The Council of the Veneto region asked to lift sanctions against Russia.
The regional Council of Veneto passed a resolution urging the Italian government to condemn the policy of the European Union in relation to the Crimea and to achieve cancellation of sanctions against Russia.
Venice also recognized the Crimea as part of Russia.
For the document voted 27 of the 51 members of the regional Council. Nine opposed, one abstained.
In the text of the document States that due to the anti-Russian sanctions, Italy has lost 3.6 billion euros.
From the imposition of trade bans with Russia in areas such as Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto suffered the greatest losses, since more than 72 percent of the decline in exports to Russia accounted for these three regions”, – said in a resolution.
According to the text of the adopted document, the Chairman of the regional Council of Veneto and the head of the region need to influence the government and Parliament of Italy and also of the whole of the European Union on the issue of relations with Russia.
Note that this body has no authority, which could give effect to its decisions in matters of international policy, as the competence of the Council extends only to the municipal sector.
Italian authorities have repeatedly called for the lifting of sanctions against Russia, citing the fact that the country is losing market. So, on 15 April, the foreign Minister of Italy Paolo Gentiloni called for the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions, he stressed that Rome does not abandon its commitments to allies.
