In Venezuela run out of food, the streets withdrawn the army

The aggravation of the protracted economic crisis in the country and massive protests, the Venezuelan government was endowed with extraordinary powers. The corresponding decree was signed yesterday and announced it on radio and television, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The document allows the Cabinet of the country to regulate the field of security and to redistribute food and energy “in order to protect the most vulnerable segments of the population.” The decree will be valid for 60 days. If necessary it can be extended for another two months.

To maintain public order in Venezuela can be employed troops, and in the distribution and sale of food will take part the army. Support for government forces can have a local self-defense units. The provision of products and commodities will be under state control, it is not excluded confiscation of property.

Companies, firms and non-governmental organizations with ties abroad, will be heavily monitored, their accounts can be frozen.

Observers call the situation in the country is critical: Venezuela is experiencing a catastrophic shortage of goods and falling government revenues amid heightened fighting between the government and the Parliament controlled by the opposition. 12 Feb 2016 Venezuela’s Parliament urged the government and the President to seek international humanitarian assistance to avoid famine in the country.

Earlier, Maduro extended in force in the country since the beginning of the year the economic situation of emergency for another 60 days. The opposition accuses the government of Maduro predecessor Hugo Chavez’s inept management of the country, the economic crisis and the shortage of basic foodstuffs. Presidential term ends Maduro in 2019.
