Pleased to increase the penalties for drunk driving.
The Verkhovna Rada intends to strengthen the responsibility for management of vehicles in a condition of alcoholic, narcotic or other intoxication, and under the influence of medicines, reducing their attention and speed of reaction.
The corresponding bill No. 4373 in the first reading supported by 254 deputies, according to the website of the Parliament.
One of the initiators of the bill – MP from the “popular front” Andrew Teeruk.
The draft Law significantly increases fines and terms of deprivation of the right of management by vehicles subject to the involvement of the driver to administrative responsibility for their management in a condition of alcoholic, narcotic or other intoxication or under the influence of medicines, reducing their attention and speed of reaction.
“The adoption of this draft Law will improve the level of safety on the roads of Ukraine will result in more restrained behavior of drivers and, consequently, reduce the occurrence of accidents and the preservation of life of citizens”, – stated in the explanatory note.
Introducing the document Teteruk said that it is planned to strengthen responsibility in such a way that first time driver will pay a fine of 10 to 200 hryvnia, which represents 600 non-taxable minimum and will be deprived of driving license for 1 year.
According to him, is repeated within 2 years, the DUI will be punished by a fine of 20 400 USD and disqualification from driving for 3 years.
“If within 5 years, the driver again gets behind the wheel drunk, he will be deprived of the right of control of the vehicle for 10 years and pay 40 800 hryvnia,” – said Teteruk.
