The Department of transportation of Missouri, the United States is going to install a test road section, which will consist of solar panels. The test road is set on the famous route 66.
The main goal of this project is to learn whether the technology of generating electricity from solar panels installed on the road, viable, and can it be used on public roads. Testing innovative road should start before the end of this year.
Each of the solar panels includes special elements that convert solar light into electricity, led lights, heating elements and a tempered glass, which can withstand the weight of the truck with a trailer. In case of success of the project, the panels would feed the mains and make the roads safer, illuminating the path and scrubbing yourself from the rain and snow.
While it is difficult to judge about the capabilities of such roads. Even after the test on a closed stretch of route 66 will remain a lot of questions, because it is not clear whether cope this technology with more heavy traffic in cities.
